Leonard has been a member since the mid 1980’s and currently serves as the Finance Committee Chair and Vice President of the University Club of Santa Barbara. He is an entrepreneur with international and national business experience and he directs numerous companies throughout the world. His extensive experience ranges from being a member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses for over 40 years; a board member and director of American Riviera Bank; and participant in several philanthropic organizations. Leonard is also a member of the Santa Barbara Yacht Club and, in his leisure time, is the proud captain of the vessel “CarpeDiem.”
Pat is originally from South Carolina and graduated from Duke University with a degree in accounting. She is involved with several professional accounting organizations and is highly active in the community as a volunteer for non-profits. Just a few of the many organizations Pat is involved with include: AICPA, AWSCPA, SB Women Lawyers, Girls Inc., and SB Associates. She has held office in the AAUW, the United Church of Christ, the Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting, the SB Women Lawyers Foundation and Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara. Some of her accomplishments include founding the local ASWA chapter and the Women’s CPA luncheon group, having taught fund accounting at UCSB for six years and the synchronization of stoplights on all one-way streets in Santa Barbara through an Energy Conservation Project in the late 70s.
Briana E. McCarthy was born and raised in Santa Barbara. She graduated from Bishop Diego High School, earned a Bachelor of Science from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and subsequently a Juris Doctor Degree from University of San Francisco School of Law in 2010. After practicing at a large litigation firm in the San Francisco Bay Area for four years, she returned to Santa Barbara in early 2015 to join the firm founded by her father in 1988, McCarthy & Kroes.

A life-long resident of Santa Barbara, James has been a Club Member since 2001, Board Member since 2011, and President since 2015. A graduate of Pomona College and Hastings College of the Law, his law practice focuses on real estate and commercial law and litigation, and trust and estate litigation, including representing secured lenders in various matters. He has served as a leader of a number of community organizations, including as President of Opera Santa Barbara, Chairman of the Santa Barbara County Assessment Appeals Board, Secretary of the Courthouse Legacy Foundation, and President of CAPS of Santa Barbara. An avid bicycle rider and racer, he has raced in the US and Europe, and coaches junior cyclists.
Eleanor Van Cott
Longtime member and generous benefactor to the Club, Eleanor Van Cott was born and raised in NY, NY and has a background as a paralegal for law firms in New York, San Antonio and Santa Barbara. She also belongs to various organizations such as the Santa Barbara Historical Museum and the Alice Tweed Tuohy Foundation.
Dr. Joe Dobbs
A member since 1966, Dr. Dobbs is currently a member of the Board & serve on the House Committee (past chairman) & the Food & Beverage committee. This is his third different term on the Board and served as President in 1984 &1985.
It has been a priviledge to be part of the recent development of the Club in term of members & the improvements of the interior of the House & the outdoor grounds.
Born and raised in Santa Barbara, and seventh generation Santa Barbaran; AB from UCSB and law degree (JD) from University of California, Berkeley. Former Deputy District Attorney and Juvenile Court Judge. Served on Board of Trustees of Santa Barbara College of law. Taught law courses at the law School and at Santa Barbara City College. Currently practice part-time with office at the University Club, and served as UClub President in 1986/1987.
Dr. Julie Hemingway
Dr. Julie Hemingway graduated from San Marcos High School here in Santa Barbara in 1985 where she went on to attend California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo and later the University of Missouri – Kansas City where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery.
She has been a Santa Barbara Ventura County Dental Society/California Dental Association- Peer Review committee member for 16 years and Chairperson of the committee for 4 of those 16 years.
She was part of the Alpha Phi International Sorority -Gamma Beta Chapter House Corporation Board (UCSB) for 9 years and of those 4 of those years as Treasurer. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
She has been married to Richard McMullin for 15 years and they were both born and raised in Santa Barbara. They have one daughter Torri McMullin, who is 14 years old and a Golden Retriever, Buddy, who is 6 years old. They enjoy the beach, traveling when possible, and concerts at the bowl or music anywhere.
Justin Van Mullem
Jack Skidmore graduated from the University of Dayton with an undergraduate degree in Accounting and Finance, he later received his graduate degree from the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg Virginia. He received his CPA from the State of California as well as the State of Ohio. He has 8 years of experience in auditing and finance as well as 30 years of experience in management in finance, banks and mortgage companies. He has three sons that live close to Santa Barbra and 6 grandchildren.
Lacy Taylor is a mother of three and a civil litigation attorney, practicing at the Law Offices of John J. Thyne III. She graduated in 2015 from the Santa Barbara College of Law. Prior to law school, she was the owner of Anacapa Dive Center in Santa Barbara. She owned and operated Anacapa Dive Center for approximately 15 years after receiving a degree in Marine Diving Technology from Santa Barbara City College. She was one of the first women in the country to graduate with a degree in commercial diving
Steve Sereboff has specialized in intellectual property law since 1991. He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, and had seven years of experience in the computer software business before earning his law degree from Boston University. While at Boston University, Mr. Sereboff founded Boston University’s Technology, Science and Law Association, and was employed by MIT to negotiate and manage software licenses. His technical expertise includes many aspects of computers (both software and hardware) and a myriad electronic and electrical devices, their operation and manufacture.
